A native of Baltimore, Denis Karp began studying flute at the age of 6 at the Peabody Preparatory. In 1989, he performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and James Galway on a two-week East Coast tour, playing John Corigliano’s “Pied Piper Fantasy.” In 2002, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music from Towson University, where he studied with Sara Nichols. He frequently records in studio as a member of The Washington Winds and performs with many groups throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. Mr. Karp is the flutist in The Gallery Winds and Charm City Winds woodwind quintets and is the co-founder and co-director of The Gallery Winds Chamber Music Sumer Camp. He is also a woodwind quintet coach for the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra. Mr. Karp teaches private flute lessons throughout Maryland and is currently the flute teacher for the Baltimore School for the Arts TWIGS program, a community outreach program that provides free music lessons to Baltimore City middle school students. He is also the flute instructor at Prince George’s Community College. Mr. Karp has served as a judge for Maryland All-State Band, Maryland State Solo and Ensemble Festival, Howard County GT Band, and many local competitions. His students consistently receive college scholarships, win competitions, and are accepted into local youth orchestras and All County and All State Bands.
